Flexible, compassionate care for children across Red Deer and Central Alberta

From one-on-one therapy in our Red Deer clinic to group programs and school-based support, our goal is to help each child communicate with clarity and confidence. We proudly serve families across Central Alberta and offer FSCD-funded services, early intervention, and specialized support for both private and public school settings.

Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD)

We offer support for families accessing specialized services through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). Both intervention and coordination services can be provided.

For children with complex needs we have therapists with clinical experience in intervention for:

  • Autism

  • Hearing & cochlear-implant users

  • Genetic syndromes

  • CAS (Childhood apraxia of speech)

  • Cleft palate

  • Global developmental delay

Individual Speech & Language Therapy

Our SLPs provide individualized therapy for children in Red Deer and across Central Alberta. Whether your child is just beginning to speak or needs help with specific areas of communication, we tailor our sessions to meet their unique strengths and needs.

Areas of Focus & Specialized Approaches

    • Articulation: Correct speech sound production 

    • Phonological Intervention: For severe sound production difficulties 

    • Receptive Language : Support to understand language concepts and following directions 

    • Expressive Language : Use of correct grammar and participation in conversation 

    • Fluency: Support for children displaying stuttering 

    • Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC): Development of augmentative communication skills and Evaluation and trial of voice output devices 

    • Social Thinking Skills: Support for children with autism to learn the basic social interaction skills 

    • Pragmatic Language: Use of language for a variety of purposes (reason, explain, answer questions, predict and inference)

Communication Options Inc. has been providing contract services to school districts in the Central Alberta area since 1994.

Services

    • Assessment to support qualification for PUF 

    • Code 47 functionality documentation 

    • Hearing screening for PUF applications 

    • Programming at all levels of inclusive practice (individual, targeted and universal) 

    • IPPs provided for communication goals 

    • Goals provided to support classroom IPPs 

    • Detailed program plans for intervention provided at the end of each session and regular updates. 

    • Support and training to Educational Assistants with adherence to ACSLPA supervision guidelines for working with support personnel 

    • Consultation and collaboration with teachers 

    • Treatment summaries provided at year end 

    • Access to a trained Speech-Language Assistant to provide additional therapy for target students 

    • Specialized consultation for augmentative communication assessment and devices

Family Oriented Programming

    • Parents as Sound Helpers - Teaches parents how to support the development of age level speech sounds 

    • Growing Language - Provides parents with general language strategies based on the Learning Language and Loving It program.

    • Growing Language - Supporting Grammar Goals - Teaches parents how to highlight and practice grammar through play, everyday routines and books

    • Words Words Wonderful Words - Participants learn to support both receptive vocabulary (understanding new words) and expressive vocabulary (using new words)

    • Conversation Connection - Supporting Language Skills Through Everyday Activities - Theme based book Pete the Cat and His 4 Groovy Buttons

    • Conversation Connection - Supporting Language Skills Through Everyday Activities - Theme based book My Truck is Stuck

    • Articulation Antics - Focuses on playful ways for parents to support the development of speech sounds in daily activities

    • Play, Talk and Learn - can be presented as a 3-part series or as stand alone sessions:

      • Play - The Power of Purposeful Play - Parents spend a playful session with their child and learn how to foster vocabulary, concepts, language, social skills and creative thinking

      • Talk - Getting Grammar Going - Provides parents with general developmental guidelines and strategies to promote grammar skills in daily activities

      • Learn - The Magic of Rhythm and Rhyme - Introduces parents to strategies that promote phonological awareness and provides the opportunity to participate in some activities with a literacy focus

Workshops

Melody Makers Music Class

Join us for an exciting new 4-week group class that blends music, movement, and early communication strategies—led by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with a Master’s in Music!

These fun, play-based sessions support speech, language, and social development through interactive musical experiences.

Partners In Play - Summer Speech & Language Camps

Join us this summer for half-day, week-long camps! Led by an experienced SLP and SLPA, each camp is packed with fun, play-based activities that support early speech and language development in a social, engaging setting.

  • Session 1: July 21–25 | Session 2: August 11–15

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

  • Cost: $425 per session
